Cholera Outbreak (Orissa)

In partnership with the Community Development Medicinal Unit-Orissa funded a successful first response to a major cholera outbreak in the State of Orissa. Most of the effort was focused in the Rayagada District, Kashipur Block where, over the course of the outbreak, there were 108 deaths. A medical team provided services through 31 medical camps, medicines were widely distributed and street plays to teach villagers about how to avoid cholera were held in 34 villages.

Arsenic Poisoning (Lalgola Block,
Murshidabad District, West Bengal)

In partnership with the West Bengal Voluntary Health Association, developed an intervention to eliminate the adverse effects of widespread arsenic in the drinking water. The project included awareness and community education as well as the provision of a revolving loan fund to help families purchase household filters.

Safe Water (Matigara, West Bengal)

In partnership with a small microfinance program operated by the Insititute for Poverty, Awareness, and Education (IPAE), project staff dug two wells and provided a revolving loan fund to enable families to acquire household safe water systems.
